Natural News on how and dangers of potassium iodide
NOTE: Potassium Iodide is NOT to be taken like vitamins! This is for emergency use only, preceding an imminent radiation exposure event.Do NOT take this in North America if a meltdown event has not occurred (you'd be wasting it). HOLD ON to these pills for emergencies only. Save 'em until you need 'em, folks!

Potassium Iodide has possible side effects. If you just start slamming these pills (especially when you don't need them), that is not a proper use of this emergency medicine

Here's  some  remedies  I  received  from  a  friend  that  you  can consider  to  protect  yourselves  from  radiation.

Please note I am NOT a doctor nor health professional.  The following are various ideas and possibilities that YOU CAN INVESTIGATE further for yourself.

                        Radiation Prevention and Detox

Don’t wait until you have already suffered from the effects of radiation.Start taking these supplements now. Some of this material is taken fromShirley’s Wellness Café.

Radiation exposure causes approximately 3% of all cancers: it causes theformation of a very reactive free radical called a “hydroxyradical.” Thedetoxification ability of glutathione (GSH) plays a key role in neutralizinghydroxyradicals. Studies conducted around the world -- from Switzerland toSpain to India to Germany -- show the effect of glutathione (GSH) onradiation damage. This is why cancer specialists are now raising glutathione(GSH) levels in cancer patients who are undergoing radiation “therapy.”Detoxification benefits from boosted glutathione (GSH) levels help cancerpatients better tolerate the radiation exposure.

Low levels of glutathione (GSH) are connected with an increased risk ofdeveloping cancer from radiation exposure. And people undergoing radiationtreatment for cancer experienced stronger negative effects and greaterinjury when they have low glutathione (GSH) levels, because white bloodimmune cells are better able to withstand radiation “therapy” when cancerspecialists raised glutathione (GSH) prior to treatment. (This should showthe folly and flawed logic of using radiation for the treatment of cancer.)
Where to get glutathione: Oral supplements may be useless. However, highquality whey protein will give your body the precursors to manufactureglutathione so your liver can deal with the extra toxic load. If you cannottolerate whey, the Lifewave company makes non-transdermal glutathionepatches that are quite effective.

At the time of the atomic bombing during World War II, Dr. TatsuichiroAkizuki was Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Francis'sHospital in Nagasaki. He fed his staff and patients a strict diet of brownrice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaidopumpkin, and sea salt. He also prohibited the consumption of sugar andsweets since they suppress the immune system. No one succumbed to radiationpoisoning, whereas the occupants of hospitals located much further away fromthe blast incident suffered severe radiation fatalities.
Sea vegetables, including kelp, contain the polysaccharide sodium alginate, which selectively binds radioactive particles of strontium and escorts themout of the body. (This was discovered by a research team at McGillUniversity of Montreal, headed by Dr. Stanley Skoryna, in 1968.) Sodiumalginate also binds with other metal pollutants such as excess barium, cadmium and zinc.
This is why various seaweeds and algae are typically used to treat radiationvictims. a href="">>; In Chernobyl, spirulina was used to help save many children from radiation poisoning. Bytaking 5 grams of spirulina a day for 45 days, the Institute of RadiationMedicine in Minsk also proved that children on this protocol experiencedenhanced immune systems, increased T-cell counts (T-cells are soldiers ofthe immune system), and reduced radioactivity levels.

Since that time the Russians have been researching the use of their own kelps from Vladivlostok, from which they have isolated thepolysaccharide U-Fucoidan, which is another radioactive detoxifier.

Chlorella algae, which builds immune response and helps eliminate heavymetals, has also shown radioprotective effects. Because they bind heavymetals, algae should be consumed after exposure to any type of radioactivecontamination. (Israeli scientists have also treated Chernobyl children withdoses of natural beta carotene from Dunaliella algae to help normalize theirblood chemistry.)

Yet another benefit of the sea vegetables rarely discussed is their highmineral content, which is a bonus in the case of radioactive exposure.Consuming natural iodine, such as in the seaweeds, helps prevent the uptakeof iodine-131 while iron inhibits the absorption of plutonium-238 andplutonium-239. Vitamin B-12 inhibits cobalt-60 uptake (used in nuclearmedicine), zinc inhibits zinc-65 uptake and sulfur is preventative forsulfur-35 (a product of nuclear reactors) incorporation by the body.

Where to get sea vegetables: a href="">>;
Maine Coast Sea Vegetables

Mountain Rose Herbs>;>
Sodium Alginate: can be purchased in capsule form from Allergy Research(also called Nutricology
Where to get iodine: a href="">>;

Because miso soup is so effective in helping prevent radiation sickness,Japanese researchers have identified the presence of an active ingredientcalled zybicolin, discovered in 1972, which acts as a binding agent to alsodetoxify and eliminate radioactive elements (such as strontium) and otherpollutants from the body.
Where to get miso: Any good health food store. Asian Markets also have miso.Make sure to get organic miso! Otherwise, it will likely be made withGenetically Engineered (GE) soy. Those sensitive to gluten should get misomade with rice, not wheat or barley.

The kelps and algaes aren't the only natural foods with radio-detoxifyingeffects. Green tea has proven "radioprotective effects" whether consumedeither before or after exposure to radiation. Studies from Japan and Chinaalso suggest that the ingredients in tea are radioactive antagonists.

Where to get green tea: Any health food store, Trader Joe’s, and evensupermarkets. Make sure your green tea is organic. The plant naturally drawsup fluoride through its roots. You don’t want extra fluoride. Also, itappears that green tea may negate the effects of some other herbs.

Nuclear workers potentially exposed to radioactive sulfur need a highercontent of sulfur in their diet. MSM supplements provide a source of dietarysulfur. And -thiol supplements such as cysteine, lipoic acid and glutathionealso help detoxify the body, as well as address other health problems.

Where to get these items:
Mountain Rose Herbs>;>

According to Shirley’s Wellness Café, an anti-radiation diet should focus onthe following foods:
· Miso soup
· Spirulina, chlorella and algae (kelp, etc.)
· Brassica vegetables and high beta carotene vegetables
· Beans and lentils
· Potassium, calcium and mineral rich foods
· High nucleotide content foods to assist in cellular repair includingspirulina, chlorella, algae, yeast, sardines, liver, anchovies and mackerel
· Cod liver oil
· Avoid sugars and sweets and wheat
· A good multivitamin/multimineral supplement

Depleted uranium is currently in the journalistic spotlight because US weapons are made from this material, and after being fired leave a legacy ofdepleted uranium dust in the environment, which anyone can absorb. Becausethe kidneys are usually the first organs to show chemical damage uponuranium exposure, military manuals suggest doses or infusions of sodiumbicarbonate to help alkalinize the urine if this happens. This makes theuranyl ion less kidney-toxic and promotes excretion of the nontoxic uraniumcarbonate complex.

Email from Diana:
The time has come when life has told us in a big way that we must change the way we are living on this planet or we will self-destruct.  Our planet is a livingcreature just as we are; as within, so without, as above, so below.

The potential nuclear disaster is indicative of the emotional turmoil that resides in each of us as well as the degree of toxicity within our own bodies.

If you follow astrology, you know that Uranus, the planet of Higher Consciousness and Liberation just changed signs on Friday into Aries and true to form, our planet is demanding to be liberated from our unconscious choices!

Do we continue to neglect every cell in our body which is consciousness expressing itself as You the individual, by poisoning it with toxins like coke, coffee, drugs, alcohol, sugar, etc., and on a larger scale by using pesticides and chemicals in your home and on the ground? Or do we make a different, healthier choice by realizing that without this planet, we, as physical beings, could not reside here.  Life will go on again on this planet with us or without us if we do not make a different choice, just as the so-called weeds keep sprouting up between the cracks in the pavement; the difference will be whether we are here to experience it or not.

Do we have to wait for a crisis to help one another, to feel compassion and connected?  It is time to embrace life, to treasure nature, to connect with the plants and animals, the stars in the heavens... Nature is out of balance, as we are, and nature will take whatever action it must in order to reestablish harmony for all life forms to exist. Life supports life. So let's support life by choosing with awareness.

Currently there is radiation escaping from the nuclear reactors that have been damaged by the tsunami.  Regardless of what the mainstream news is saying, there is radiation leaking and with each explosion being blown into the air and it is important for you to take some form of natural iodine for at least the next few months. The jet stream winds will be bringing the radiation to the United States. If there are full blown meltdowns with these Japanese reactors, then the toxic radioactive air will circulate the globe over and over for some time. This is not a cause to panic, but it is a call for you to be proactive in maintaining your health through this crisis.

You should know that your thyroid will absorb radioactive iodine if it does not have enough iodine in its cells.  The CDC has a web page detailing the use of Potassium iodide (also called KI) which is a salt of stable (not radioactive) iodine. Stable iodine is an important chemical needed by the body to make thyroid hormones. Most of the stable iodine in our bodies comes from the food we eat. KI is stable iodine in a medicine form.

Here is link to the information: - remember this is a government document!  Products like Potassium Iodine/Iodate should not be taken for this event. These can have side effects, unlike the natural forms of iodine found in kelp, alfalfa and sea dulse.

From the Herbal Healer: Several internet-based companies have been marketing potassium iodate (KIO3) for radiation protection in place of potassium iodide (KI). Though the names are similar, the products are very different, and the US Food and Drug Administration has expressed serious concerns about the safety and effectiveness of potassium iodate. Only three brands of potassium iodide (KI) have been approved by the FDA for radiation exposure: IOSAT, ThyroShield and Thyrosafe.

Food Sources of Iodine:
  • Asparagus
  • Dulse
  • Garlic
  • Kelp
  • Lima beans
  • Mushrooms
  • Seafood
  • Sea salt and fortified salt
  • Seaweed
  • Sesame seeds
  • Soybeans
  • Spinach
  • Summer squash
  • Swiss chard
  • Turnip greens

Signs of Iodine deficiency:
  • Cretinism
  • Eventually lead to myxedema
  • Fatigue
  • Goiter
  • Under active thyroid
  • Weight gain

What Iodine Does:
  • Determines the level of metabolism and energy in the body
  • Helps to metabolize excess fat
  • Important for physical and mental development
  • Loosens mucus in the respiratory tract
  • Natural antiseptic
  • Prevents goiter
  • Prevents thyroid disorders
  • Protects against the toxic effects of exposure to radioactive materials
  • Relieves the pain of fibrocystic breasts
Cautions & Comments About Iodine:

Excessive iodine intake (over thirty times rda) can produce a metallic taste and sores in the mouth, swollen salivary glands, diarrhea, and vomiting. High doses of supplemental iodine may upset the stomach. Iodine is best taken as potassium iodide. Iodine is toxic in high doses and may aggravate or cause acne.
Large doses may interfere with hormone activity.

Some foods block the uptake of iodine into the thyroid gland when eaten raw in large amounts.  These include Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, peaches, pears, spinach, and turnips.  If you have an under active thyroid, you should limit your consumption of these foods.

Info on Chlorophyl from a reader

Dear Health Enthusiast,

Chlorophyll in AFA Helps Protect Against Radiation—According to Dr. Gabriel Cousens, MD MD(H).

In an excerpt from the book "Conscious Eating" by Dr. Gabriel Cousens, MD MD(H), Director of the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Arizona, he states that the chlorophyll-rich AFA (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) from Klamath Lake in Oregon can protect against radiation. Our E3Live is wild-harvested, organic AFA.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

"Foods containing chlorophyll have long been known to protect against radiation. Generally speaking, any green foods have chlorophyll. From 1959 to 1961, the Chief of the US Army Nutrition Branch in Chicago found that high-chlorophyll foods reduced the effects of radiation on guinea pigs by 50%. This includes all chlorophyll foods: cabbage, leafy green vegetables, spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, any sprouts, and the blue-green algae from Klamath Lake called Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA). This variety of blue-green algae is an excellent antiradiation food because of its high cellular immutability and high regenerative energy, as well as it high chlorophyll content. It should be taken in a dose of four capsules (1 gram) four times per day for one week before, and several weeks after, radiation exposure."

After the World's last worst nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, Russia, doctors were known to treat patients with algae. Numerous scientists and doctors throughout the world studied the effect of algae in treating those who suffered from radiation effect.

With the crisis in Japan, we here at Klamath Algae Products in Klamath Lake, Oregon are making our E3Live 300count (500mg) AFA algae capsules available at a 10% discount to our clients.

Wishing our global community good health.

Herbs for Radioactivity

Subject: Fukushima Nuclear Meltdown HEALTH ADVISORY
by David Wolfe

It looks like two or three of the reactors at Fukushima are in the
process of melting down. In case you haven’t heard, reactor 1
literally blew up. I flew within several hundred miles of Tokyo last
nite when we left Seoul, South Korea. It was all over Seoul TV.
American television is covering it up, but that won't last for long.
It is bad. Probably the worst disaster in history. And the fallout is
heading beyond the greater Tokyo region and being pulled into the jet
stream heading to the West Coast of America and Canada with Oregon and
Northern California likely to get the worst of it.

I put this together (as a guide) for
members and all my friends:

"In light of the meltdown of Fukushima: How to protect yourself and
your thyroid against radiation: kelp, ginseng, ashwaganda (recently
found to regrow nerves), chlorella, zeolites, fulvic acid, nascent
iodine, reishi mushroom, sea salt (also salty miso), botanical (plant-
derived) or lipo- vitamin C, magnesium (chlorophyll), selenium (brazil
nuts), coconut butter (coconut products), Megahydrate, Crystal Energy.
Spread the word."

Start small, but increase your dosages rapidly and dramatically if you
live in Hawaii, Western Canada, and the Western USA. Start now.
Fallout will descend upon North America sometime around March 22.

If you live in Japan, start taking massive doses of these foods,
superfoods, superherbs, and supplements immediately. These are all
safe for children.

Radioactive fallout lingers longest in medicinal mushrooms. If you
live in North America, pick your mushrooms NOW. I wouldn’t recommend
picking any medicinal mushrooms in the fallout zones (after the
fallout begins) for several years, if not a decade depending on how
bad the radiation is.

If you live in North America, stock up on food NOW because fresh food
may be contaminated for several months after the fallout comes down
from the jet stream into the fallout zones.

Hi Pat:

That's a pretty good list of items, though I wouldn't recommend whey protein or anything of dairy origin for a lot of reasons.

There are excellent all-plant protein supplements. I personally like Nitrofusion Multisource Protein, Vanilla flavor, that comes at a reasonable cost in 5 lb jugs. You can check this online. The protein sources are pea, brown rice and artichoke.
